Deprived of its former bases in the Iraqi-Syrian areas, ISIS is retreating into the Internet. A trend accentuated by the Covid-19 pandemic, which incites the terrorist organisation to intensify its online activity.

This strategy aims, first and foremost, to protect jihadists from the virus. But it also aims to attract new recruits, especially among young people, who spend more time online because of the sanitary confinement. Aware that this retreat on the Internet is not without dangers, ISIS has just launched a review to introduce its supporters to data protection, in order to deal with the electronic surveillance programmes developed by the anti-terrorist services that track them down.
