Relations between India and the United States have sharply deteriorated following tariffs imposed by Trump on Indian exports to the US. Intended to pressure India into halting oil purchases from Russia, the tariffs backfired. They drove New Delhi closer not only to Moscow, but also—an unprecedented shift—to Beijing, long regarded as a traditional rival.
Signaling a policy shift toward China, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced he will pay an official visit to Beijing this winter. Discreet exchanges have already taken place between the two countries’ security services, particularly on coordinating their policies within BRICS. India is also strengthening ties with Russia: in early August, the head of India’s Security Council traveled to Moscow and signed a cooperation agreement with Russia’s foreign intelligence service. Vladimir Putin has been invited for an official visit to New Delhi this December.
This India–China–Russia alignment is causing deep concern among European and US intelligence services. According to our sources, the White House has even tasked the CIA with a forward-looking study to develop strategic scenarios to counter this new alliance.
