Western confidential notes report an increase in the number of defections of Iranian officers, who use missions abroad to desert.

The latest is Touraj Ismaili, an executive of the Pasdarans (Revolutionary Guards), who held the highly sensitive position of cyber security manager of the Iranian ballistic missile programme. He reportedly took advantage of a secret mission in Lebanon to defect via Turkey.
